Mangel Halto Beach Aruba

Mangel Halto beach Aruba Map

Mangel Halto isn’t the beach people picture when they imagine Aruba. The mangroves are the whole point here thick stands of them lean out over the water along the shoreline, and you’ll see herons and the odd pelican using them as a rest stop between fishing runs. Duck under the branches at low tide and there are pockets of shade cool enough to nap in, and locals do exactly that, dragging plastic chairs down from their trucks on weekends. Good spot for a camera if you’re into birds. Good spot for a book if you’re not.

The seabed here doesn’t drop the way it does at Eagle Beach or Palm Beach. It slopes out gradually, so even weak swimmers can wade a fair distance before it’s over their head. That same gentle slope is what makes the snorkeling forgiving you can float along the reef edge without ever losing your footing if you need it. Below the surface there’s a scattered reef with parrotfish, sergeant majors, and every so often a barracuda cruising past like it’s got somewhere to be. If you’ve never snorkeled before, this is about as easy an introduction as the island offers.

If Mangel Halto’s rougher, more local feel is what you’re after, the Aruba Cave Pool is worth the extra drive less reef, more cliff and plunge, and a solid second stop if you’re making a full day of the south side.
